One of the things that gaming taught me is that I actually like people. Not all people, of course, and definitely not all the time, but as a general rule people are more or less OK. Gaming has given me a lot of my closest friends, and arguably gave me a shot with the person who eventually became my partner. Gaming keeps making connections for me, and thinking back gaming is where I got my lead for my first tech job, which I've made my career.
Gaming, as a hobby, has shaped uncountable parts of my life, to the point that it's intertwined in everything I do. And yet gaming, as a hobby, is something I've come to distance myself from more and more, due to the toxicity and pain associated with it. I love my friends, and I love playing games with them. But boy do I hate all of the stuff that's associated with the idea of "a gamer".
